Experiences from AFITA 2018, India

       AFITA (The Asia-Pacific Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture) 2018 this year was held at Victor Menezes Convention Center, which hosted by IIT Bombay (part of IITB Diamond Julibee Celebration) from October 24 – October 26. Dr Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Honourable Vice President of India was extremely delighted to address a speech at the Opening of AFITA 2018.

       There are many participants from 16 countries, regions, and 12 delegates from Taiwan attended AFITA 2018. The conference have 146 papers which have been divided into 23 sections. The Director of GIS research Center, Prof Jimmy Chou Tien Yin has been invited as a Chair for 2 sections “Geospatial Technologies in Agriculture and Natural Resources”. Dr Milly Yeh, and Dr Van from GIS.FCU is representative TAITA to present their research on “Drones applications in Agriculture” in the section S19 – ICT for Agriculture Development. This research mentioned on integrating UAV applications and Simulation model in Agriculture which are attracted many listeners.

       In the Board Meeting of AFITA 2018, Prof Adi (AFITA President) and Prof Jimmy Chou (AFITA General Secretary) moderated the meeting, during meetings, important decisions are made by 100% agreeing all members: 1) AFITA title has been change to the official name as APFITA (Asia-Pacific Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture); 2) 2019 APFITA will be host at Taichung on 30th Oct. to 1st Nov. 2019. Many delegation from differences countries are looking forward to visit Taiwan for APFITA 2019.
