2021 International Smart Cities e-Forum – Tighten with the world virtually

The COVID may slow down the world but our effects would never be paused. Organized by the College of Construction and Development, Feng Chia University, 2021 International Smart Cities e-Forum was held in virtual. Started at 2pm, 29 July, nine experts from Taiwan and countries abroad were invited to share their recent studies and discuss in the field of smart city industry. The opening speech was given by Prof. Jimmy Chou, Dean of the College of Construction and Development, Feng Chia University. It was followed by experts from Korea, Vietnam and Japan, for their studies in smart city development, construction of 3D cities and implementation of Moving Feature in indoor navigation. For the domestic speeches, speakers from the National Applied Research Laboratories (NARL), the council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, the National Center for High-Performance Computing (NCHC) and professors from the Department of Civil Engineering, Feng Chia University were invited to deliver their speeches respectively. Topics around the Data Cube establishment, UAV-based thermal inspection and the hot topics in real estate block chain were discussed. In statistic, over a hundred audiences participated with more than 250 comments exchanged regarding to the development of smart cities.

2021 International Smart Cities e-Forum was held and broadcasted on YouTube channel. Nine speeches were given in English with 3 major categories.
  • International Speakers:
    Prof. Ki-Joune Li from Pusan National University introduced the recent development and planning of Smart Cities in Korea. Dr. Kyoungsook KIM from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) introduced her studies on 3D map platform. While Dr. Bui Quang Hung from Vietnam National University, Hanoi, introduced the applications of OGC CityGML with the example from VNU.
 Prof. Ki-Joune Li from Pusan National University delivered his speech on the Smart City Development in Korea.
 Dr. Kyoungsook KIM from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) delivered her speech with the topic of A 3D Map Platform for Supporting Safe Mobility.
 Dr. Bui Quang Hung from Vietnam National University, Hanoi, delivered his speech with the topic of Development of VNU virtual campus using OGC CityGML Standard.
  • Government Authorities from Taiwan:
    Dr. Ming-Chih Cheng from the National Applied Research Laboratories (NARL) introduced the recent development of Data Cube in Taiwan. Dr. Hsiao-Yuan Yin from Water and Soil Conservation Bureau, the council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan mentioned the topics around landslide risk management which is highly concerned on the island. While Mr. Yi-Liang Shih from the National Center for High-Performance Computing (NCHC) shared his studies of 3D techniques in geospatial applications.
 Dr. Ming-Chih Cheng from the National Applied Research Laboratories (NARL) delivered his speech in the topic of Taiwan Data Cube Development.
 Dr. Hsiao-Yuan Yin from Water and Soil Conservation Bureau, the council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan delivered his speech with the topic of Comprehensive Landslide Hazard Management in Taiwan.
 Mr. Yi-Liang Shih from the National Center for High-Performance Computing (NCHC) delivered his speech with the topic The Development Progress of 3D Geospatial Infrastructure in Taiwan.
  • Professors from FCU:
    Prof. Wei-Yen (William) Lin from the Department of Civil Engineering, FCU introduced the applications of 3D-GIS in indoor networking. While Prof. Yi-Min Huang introduced the inspection techniques of UAV-based thermal sensing. Lastly, speech was given by Dr. Simon C.Y. Chen from the Department of Land Management. He introduced the block chain applications of Taiwan in post-pandemic era.
 Prof. Wei-Yen (William) Lin from the Department of Civil Engineering, FCU delivered his speech with the topic of Automating the Generation of Indoor Network for Human Way-finding Using 3D GIS.
 Ass. Prof. Yi-Min Huang from the Department of Civil Engineering, FCU delivered his speech with the topic of Pilot Study of Inspection of Hydraulic and Slope Stabilizing Structures by Using UAV and High-Resolution Thermal Imaging.
 Dr. Simon C.Y. Chen from the Department of Land Management, FCU, delivered his speech with the topic of Applying Blockchain Technology in the Post-pandemic era: The Development of On-line contract signing and logging in Taiwan.

Our daily life can no longer separate from the new generation of technology development. Everything from public transportation, weather forecast and the risk management, the new technology formed complicated interactions with people. It can enhance the working efficiency and therefore the living standard. As an example of smart technologies application, the forum was organized in virtual. Thanks giving to all speakers for their heartwarming sharing, the smart city development would only rocket ahead dispirit the global pandemic.
