Consolidation of International Networks-GIS.FCU Contributes in Post Pandemic Era

After a prolonged boarder closure by global pandemic, international events are reactivating accordingly from the frozen point. International organizations started to shift their online conferences back to physical discussions and re-establishing the prier cooperation. With the lead by GIS Research Center, Feng Chia University (GIS.FCU), Taiwan delegations participated in the 124th Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Technical Committee Meeting in Singapore. Delegates included officers from the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau (SWCB) and the National Development Council. The event took place on 2-8 October. It covered a range of discussions, industrial insights, leadership inspirations and idea exchanges.

OGC Meeting Opening

This conference is the first-ever OGC physical meeting after the epidemic. It co-organized with Singapore Land Authority GeoWorks. The theme of the conference is Digital Twins – Land and Sea. Nearly 50 working group meetings have been held during the five-day technical conference, while nearly 300 speeches have been delivered by experts and scholars from around the globe. Meanwhile, Taiwan delegates participated and contributed at the Emergency Disaster Management Group EDM DWG, GeoAI DWG, and Asia Forum. Five speeches have been delivered with the themes related to the development of disaster management in Taiwan, applications of BigGIS and the latest development of high-speed Internet in Taiwan.

On the third day of the conference, GIS.FCU arranged a special session for SWCB and the key senior officers from OGC. This direct dialogue was chaired by Prof. Jimmy Chou and intended to discuss cooperative issues with common concerns. After the meeting, consensus on Disaster Pilot 2023 participation has been reached, both parties also expressed their desire to exchange visits. GIS. FCU expressed the willingness to host the 2024/2025 OGC TC meeting has been accepted. And most importantly, SWCB and OGC confirmed with the content of their first MOU. It will be signed in an appreciate timing in the future.
