GIS.FCU held a grand series of events from November 1st to 2nd to celebrate 30th anniversary, including presentations and forums by affiliated companies, an internal GI Day, an international symposium on Geo-Intelligent and Digital Twins Interoperability, and a group appreciation ceremony and banquet. Nearly 600 participants attended the events, creating a warm and lively atmosphere. The celebration concluded successfully with great success!
This November, the 14th Asia-Pacific Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture (APFITA) was held at the Tsukuba Conference Center in Japan. This conference began in Japan in 1998 and has been held for over twenty years, rotating among member countries. This year, this conference was held once again in Japan. APFITA includes countries in the Pan-Pacific system and gathered over 200 experts, scholars, and industry professionals from Asia and the Pacific region to explore the latest technologies and future developments in smart agriculture. The Taiwan team actively participated and presented several research findings. In addition, during the Member Representatives’ Meeting, the Member resolved that the next conference would be hosted by IPB University, one of Indonesia’s five major universities.
The 130th OGC Technical Committee was held from November 4 to November 8, 2024, in Goyang, South Korea. Hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) of Korea, the event brought together experts, scholars, and industry leaders from around the globe to discuss the latest developments in geospatial technology and the direction of standard-setting efforts. Feng Chia University, as one of the OGC Principal Members, actively participates in the meeting annually, enabling the institution to gain insights into innovative GIS technologies.

After a 15-year hiatus, the Alishan Forest Railway is now fully operational. The GIS Group assisted the Forestry Bureau and Cultural Heritage Section in inviting Alishan Forest Railway’s sister and friendly railways to Taiwan for this event.
The 129th OGC TC/PC meeting was held in Montreal, Canada, from June 17 to June 21, 2024. GIS.FCU Director Jimmy Chou led a team of group supervisors, along with representatives from various Taiwanese government agencies, to form a Taiwanese delegation to attend the meeting. They discussed multiple cooperation projects and deepened exchanges between the two sides!

The Open Geospatial Consortium’s (OGC) 128th Technical Committee Meeting was held in Delft, Netherlands, from March 25th to 28th, 2024. The event was hosted by Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and saw the attendance of nearly 300 experts and scholars from around the world. Among them, including representatives from industry, government and academia. This year’s event saw the highest-ever physical attendance, with over 100 participants joining virtually. As one of OGC’s principal members, the GIS Research Center actively participated in the event. Director Jimmy Chou represented the center at the meeting in the Netherlands. Jimmy delivered reports and shared the center’s achievements in various sessions. Furthermore, Jimmy facilitated the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation and OGC. This agreement paves the way for further international collaboration opportunities.
