GEO XII Plenary Session in Mexico City

Group on Earth Observations Twelfth Plenary Session were held in Mexico City, Mexico on Nov.10th. The president of GIS.FCU, Prof. Tien-Yin Chou and Asst. Prof Lan Kun Chung attended the meeting. GIS.FCU is the fifth time to participate the conference. GIS.FCU took part in GEO Plenary Session in Istanbul, Turkey in 2011, Iguassu, Brazil in 2012, and Geneva, Switzerland in 2013 and 2014. FCU’s footprints are everywhere.

GIS.FCU joined FCU delegation to participate in 2015 Asian Conference on Remote sensing ACRS 36, Philippines

2015 ACRS 36 had been held during October 19-23rd at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Quezon city, Metro Manila, Philippines. There are over 635 paper presentations from 38 countries and regions to attend in the conference, and the main theme of the 36th ACRS is “Fostering Resilient Growth in Asia”. There are above 80 Taiwanese participants from Feng Chia University, National Central University, National Chang Hua University of Education, National Chiao Tung University.

2015 Smart Cities Week

Invited by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), Dr. Chou, Dr. Yeh, and Dr. Fang from GIS.FCU attended the 2015 Smart Cities Week on Sep. 14 in Washington, D.C., USA. The conference was organized by Smart Cities Council and attendants were from industries, academics, and government. Topics about Smart Cities were extensively discussed in the forums.

2015 International Conference on INTERNET STUDIES (NETs) had been successfully held on July 18 -July 19, 2015 in Tokyo, Japan. Each paper needs to be reviewed by two reviewers and 98 papers was published in NETs finally. GIS.FCU Dr. Feng-Cheng (Francis) Lin published a paper–A ParkingML Standard and Its Related Appliance Based on Raspberry Pi for Parking Management.

2015 International Research Conference on Engineering and Technology (IRCET) had been successfully held on June 27 -June 29, 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand. IRCET aims at bringing together the researchers, scientists, engineers, and scholar students in all areas of Engineering, Technology, Life Sciences, Natural Sciences and Applied Sciences. GIS.FCU Dr. Feng-Cheng (Francis) Lin attended this conference and published a paper – The design and implementation of combining the standard of data and integrated water resource data in distributed cloud computing environment.

GIS.FCU Participated the 2015 OGC TC/PC Summer Meeting

Director of GIS.FCU, Dr. Jimmy Chou, attended to OGC PC/TC Summer Meeting during June. The meeting was held on National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) at Boulder in Colorado, USA. There were almost 300 scholars from abroad join the five-day meeting. Dr. Chou as the representative of GIS.FCU reported the latest research achievement and discussed with other experts.

Academic Exchange in Vietnam

Prof. Chou, the direction of GIS.FCU, Dr. Fang, and Dr. Hoang, the first Vietnam Ph.D. student from GIS.FCU, went together to Vietnam for academic exchange programs on April 22 to 25, 2015. During the visit, Prof. Chou interviewed students of Thai Nguyen University (TNU) for applying graduate programs in Feng Chia University.

GIS.FCU Practical Training Workshop in ICTU, Vietnam

The Chair of GIS.FCU, Dr. Chou, with Dr. Huang, Dr. Hoang, and graduate student Mr. Do, went to University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU) in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam, for an academic visit and GIS workshop on Jan. 26, 2015. The GIS workshop was held on Jan. 28-29 in GIS.TNU of ICTU. The workshop was provided by GIS.FCU, and the class included GIS introduction, disaster monitoring, remote sensing, and crop model with GIS.

OGC Testbed-11, the Seventh Year of Our Participant!

It has been 7th year of participant of GIS.FCU since 2008 in OWS-6. GIS.FCU started joining originally from projects participant and then played more important role in OGC as a principal member and the Asia standard compliance center of OGC. On the 12th to 14th Jan. 2015, Buck and How from Technique Management Dept. of GIS.FCU went to George Mason University, Virginia to attend the kick off meeting of OGC Testbed-11. GIS.FCU will develop six technical components of Cross-Community Interoperability (CCI) thread and Urban Climate Resilience (UCR) thread which include the implementation of Clients, WPS2.0 and WFS-T.
