Japan, Dec 3, 2014.

Jointly organized by Prof. Ryosuke Shibasak, University of Tokyo, Hitachi, and National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), the 2014 OGC Asia Forum Summit was successfully hosted in Tokyo, Japan, Dec 1-5. Prof. Chou gave welcome remarks on behalf of OGC Asia Forum Chair while Dr. Chung initiated the ParkingML in the Session of Smart Asia, where most international attendees posed positive attitude toward the initiate.

GIS.FCU Participated in 2014 OGC Winter Meeting

2014 OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) TC/PC meeting was held during Dec. 1st -5th at Akihabara Convention Hall in Japan. There were almost hundreds of experts to discuss international spatial information standard in the meeting. Dr. Lung- Shih Yang, Senior Vice President of Feng Chia University, Dr. Jimmy Chou, Director of GIS.FCU, Asst Prof Peter Chung, Dr. Chen of NSPO (National SPace Organization), and Slayer Juang, General Manager of GeoThings, joined the meeting as Taiwan delegation. Representatives from different counties had addressed their achievements of applying standard.

GIS.FCU Participated in GEO XI Plenary in Geneva

Group on Earth Observation (GEO) hosted the GEO XI Plenary to report GEOSS project achievements during November 12th to 14th. Director Dr. Chou of GIS.FCU presented the achievement of AIP-7 Water Services to show Taiwan Monitoring Network (TMN) developed by Feng Chia University. GIS.FCU had participated GEOSS project of GEO for five years and built good relationship with international teams. The participation to GEO also improved also improve the further cooperation between Taiwan and others countries.

GIS.FCU Visit Thai Nguyen University and Attend GISATS 2014

The Director of GIS.FCU, Dr. Tien-Yin Chou, had visited Thai Nguyen University in Vietnam with President B.J. Lee, V.P. C.C. Chiu, and professors from Feng Chia University on Nov. 3, 2014. Dr. Chou was invited to attend the ceremony of GIS .FCU in Thai Nguyen University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU), and the International Symposium on GIS and Advanced Technologies 2014 (GISATAS 2014). Dr. Y.M. Huang and Dr. F.C. Lin of GIS.FCU were also invited to the symposium. During the stay in ICTU, Dr. Chou had interviewed potential students who had interests on the higher education about GIS. Several candidates will enroll FCU in next year.

The 7th Remote Sensing and Telemetry Conference of China and Taiwan has been held from 19th October to 24th October at Qingdao City, Shandong, China. The conference was hosted by Institute of Remote Sensing Applications Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Society of Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing. Many experts of the field were invited to the conference and experienced the development and landscape of the city.

2014 AFITA, The 9th Conference of Asian Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture

The 9th Conference of the Asian Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture in 2014 was held at Mt. Lawley Campus of Edith Cowan University (ECU), in Perth, West Australia from 29th September to 2nd October. There were more people coming from over 30 countries attended the event, and San Cheng Chang, minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology was also invited to give an opening speech as the president of AFITA. The Taiwan ambassador in Australia has also attended the conference. The 9th AFITA conference has brought Grower Forum, On Line Forum and Panel Discussion together, and the diverse ways of discussion has become a distinguished feature of the conference.

The 2014 OGC TC/PC Fall Meeting was held from 15th to 19th Sep., 2014 at University of Calgary, Canada, There were up to 18 open discussion sessions of Domain Working Group (DWG) and 21 private sessions of Standard Working Group (SWG). Director of GIS.FCU, Prof. Jimmy Chou, was invited to importance of the spatial information standards in smart cities.

Splendid 20  GIS.FCU 20th Anniversary Celebration

For celebrating the 20th Anniversary, GIS.FCU held a series of activities on August 29-30 and celebrated the growth and achievements with 180 participants from around the world.
Dr. San-Cheng Chang, Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology, praised that GIS.FCU is an energetic and united organization full of visions and ideas, and can be a role model of academic research centers.
The celebration activities included Cross-Strait Conference on Spatial Information Technology, “Review and Outlook” presentation, banquet show, and the Family Day Party.

Water Disaster and Big Data at Shonan Meeting

Professor Lan-Kun Chung, and How represented GIS.FCU to attended Shonan meeting in Japan on 7-10 July 2014, for discussing water disaster and big data with all representatives from the U.S., Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. The scope of discussion includes Typhoon, Tsunami and flood scenario, focusing on infrastructure, information technology, and social media application. All discussion will be reformed as an official document and published by Nation Intelligent Institute, then will provide to related authorities as a reference.

UAV GIS.FCU International Exhibition Sales Gained Prominent Result

GIS.FCU has showcased the new UAV model, Helison 700HD on 17-21 June 2014, on the Communic Asia 2014 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. The immediate HD broadcast transmit ability of Helison 700HD, attracted many attention from India, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Maldives, and many European and American countries. It was a big success and Helison 700HD has also made it to international publications and news.

GIS.FCU Initiated International Standards Plan of Space Information

OGC Technical Committee / Planning Committee Meeting were held at the United Nations World Meteorological Organization in Geneva, Switzerland on June 10th. GIS.FCU Asst. Prof Lan Kun (Peter) Chung attended the meeting and propose one new OGC standard, parkingML, initiated by Taiwan. GIS.FCU did a very cool thing and it’s a big step toward a parking standard.
