2017 105th OGC TC/PC Meeting in New Zealand

The 105th OGC TC/PC Meeting was held in New Zealand during 4th to 7th Dec. 2017, Prof. Jimmy and Dr. How attended the event as the representative of OGC principle member. During this event, Prof. Jimmy presented “the GeoAI development and policy in Taiwan” in GeoAI ad-hoc meeting, “Application on Disaster Prevention in Taiwan and Vietnam”in Emergency Disaster Management DWG; Dr. How provided a joint presentation with OGC staff Gobe to report “The semantic (SRIM API) implementation fromTestbed-13”in GeoSemantic DWG. In addition to that, a potential domain working group for artificial intelligence was also proposed by Dr. Kim, AIST, Japan during the GeoAI ad-hoc meeting, GISFCU has committed to contribute efforts on drafting the charter of GeoAI DWG in following months.

Visiting Thailand for Sharing Soil and Water Conservation Technologies and Industry Exchange

Due to promotion of the New Southbound Policy, Taiwan closely interacts with ASEAN countries. ASEAN countries are the main stronghold for Taiwan’s first overseas operation. Facing the increasingly significant impact of global climate change, the New Southbound countries are paying more attention to soil and water conservation and other relevant mitigation work. In order to make the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau (SWCB) establish cooperative relations with the Southbound countries and develops the university-industry-government information sharing platform, Taiwan sent delegation to Thailand to participate into soil and water conservation technologies sharing and industry exchange on 14-19 November.

GIS.FCU attended the GEO XIV Plenary in Washington D.C.

During 23 th to 27th this Oct., Dr.How represented GIS.FCU to attend the 14th GEO Plenary in Washington D.C., accompanied with Dr.Lin from National Center for High Performance Computing(NCHC) and Dr.Chiou from Taiwan Forestry Research Institute. There were more than 700 representatives and delegates from 105 countries and 150 international organizations. Various topics related to global observation and the perspective and contribution from Taiwan had been discussed, including water resource management, flood management, forestry resource and disaster management, OpenDataCube applications. Some networks with OGC, CEOS, GeoScience, and International Flood Initiative has been connected as well during this event!

Cross-strait Symposium on Soil and Water Conservation 2017

GIS.FCU director Jimmy Chou and Dr. Frank Fang joined the Cross-strait Symposium on Soil and Water Conservation 2017 during August 17th to 23 th in Chengdu, Sichuan. Director Chou invited to be keynotes speech on “Application of Spatial Information Technology in Intelligent Disaster Prevention Monitoring.” Dr.Fang was present “Record of Observation on landslide in Taiwan after Morakot Disaster – Taking Shenmu Observatory as an Example.

GIS.FCU Participated in International Symposium on Remote Sensing (ISRS), 2017

2017 International Symposium on Remote Sensing (ISRS) had been successfully held on May 17- May 19, 2017 in Nagoya, Japan. ISRS aims at bringing together the researchers, scientists, engineers, and students in all theories and applications of Remote Sensing. Director Dr. Tien-Yin Chou, Dr. Mei-Ling Yeh, and Dr. Feng-Cheng Lin attended this conference and published two papers: The architecture and implementation of citizen-probe for smart city. The study and implementation of linked data mechanism for FORMOSAT-II historical imagery metadata in Taiwan. We shared the results of MOST projects in 2017 and demonstrated the applications of our research. After ISRS, we exchanged the ideas of Remote Sensing and GIS-related technology, so that GIS.FCU can know each other with scholars and researchers from Taiwan, Japan, and Korea.

GIS.FCU Participated in OGC TC/PC Meeting in Netherlands

After the 101th Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) TC/PC Meeting held in FCU, Taiwan in December 2016, Delft University of Technology in Netherlands held the OGC TC/PC Meeting in March, 2017. Director Dr. Jimmy Chou of GIS.FCU served as Taiwan’s delegation to attend the meeting during March 20-24, 2017.The keynote speeches were focused on the strategy discussion on 3D City Model and the development of geospatial information standard in Netherlands. The main topic of Domain Working Group (DWG) and Standard Working Group (SWG) sessions was the international development on open geospatial information.
