Feng Chia University (FCU) has signed an Industry-Academia Cooperation Agreement with PCI Geomatics, located in Taichung, Taiwan, and Lotus (H&R) Inc., exclusive reseller of PCI Geomatics technology in Taiwan on November 4. In order to promote cooperation and knowledge exchange, GIS.FCU will be the authorized training center of PCI Geomatica in Taiwan.
The Department of Urban Planning and Spatial Information of Feng Chia University (FCU) had been interacting with College of Geosciences of Fujian Normal University (FNU) in last few years. Both had signed an agreement of “3+1 Study Plan.” It denoted that undergraduate students can study at FNU in their first and second years, at Taiwan in their third year, and then go back to FNU to continue their study in their fourth year. In order to let those students understand the research of interests and outcomes, Tien-Ying Chou, the director of GIS.FCU, and the manager Mei-Ling Yeh were invited to College of Geosciences FNU to make a speech, sharing the development of spatial information researches, career, and experiences in this field.
The 20th ITS World Congress 2013 was held in Tokyo, Japan, Oct. 14~18, 2013. This annual conference was featured with 250 presentation sessions, over 1,000 top academic and practical paper, technical visits, showcase demonstrations, and 700 exhibition booths. More than 20,000 participants from 65 countries including GIS.FCU witnessed this annual greatest feast of ITS world.
On the Oct. 7~9, 2013, Ivy and How from Technique Management Dept. of GIS.FCU went to George Mason University, Virginia to attend the kick off meeting of OGC OWS-10. GIS.FCU is the main implemented team of Hydro Interoperability Issue, take the tasks on integrating hydro data models from the US and Canadian side through a general model, HT_Feature, purposed by WMO, UN.
Director Chou attended OGC TC/PC meeting at Frascati, Italy on the end of Sept. 2013 for a week. During that week, Dr. Chou was also been invited to give a presentation on September 26 at the 2013 Conference of Automated Mapping and Facilities Management (AM/FM) host by AM/FM GIS Italia Association.
GIS.FCU Director Jimmy Chou heading to Hohhot City, the capital of Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, China to share GIS.FCU experiences in developing spatial information systems on the “Cloud”.
2013 International Conference on Water Sustainability in Arid Regions by International Geographical Union (IGU) was host at ten decades history Lanzhou University this Aug. 12 to 14. More than 150 international famous scholars and experts on Water Resources Issues were gathering around and sharing experiences and knowledge during this three days conference.
Director Chou of GIS.FCU was invited to make a presentation titled “Advanced Network Disaster Management Systems: Challenges in the 21th Century for Taiwan” on an international conference which organized by IB Consultancy together with the National Military University of Malaysia – “Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance – Asia Pacific 2013”, took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 2-4 July 2013. The conference brought together Asian and International leading experts in ISR, UAS and NATO Operations for high level conference and panel discussion.
The CEO of Formosa Plastic Transport Corp., Sheng-Guang Chen, invited GIS.FCU to attend an internal meeting at Formosa Plastic Park in Ningpo, Zhejiang, China, discussing how to implement Fleet Management Systems to resolve difficulties of managing local fleet companies in China.
On June 18, 2013, led by Dr. Yang, the Vice President of FCU, Dr. Chou and Dr. Fang of GIS.FCU visited Fujian Normal University. The next day Fujian Normal University held the Fujian-Taiwan Flood Disaster Prevention Conference. Both universities had exchanged experience and shared information in the conference.
The Information Center of the Taichung City Government joined the competition of The Intelligent Community, and commissioned the marketing and promotion project to the GIS .FCU. In hoping for us to help going through the aspects of an intelligent life, collect supporting data and put together a detailed report of the outcomes and bonuses of the implication of ICT technologies for the competition as a supporting evidences. Taichung City won the 2013 award only after her second year of competing, which indicated that the implementation of the city’s broadband environment, digital inclusions and innovative services were a great success and were highly praised by the international committee.
Two senior engineers of GIS.FCU visited The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan during June and July to cooperate on the radiation data and OGC standards.
