GIS.FCU participated the IEEE IGARSS Conference in the United States

GIS.FCU was represented by Senior Deputy Director Hao Chen-Yu at the 2023 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IEEE IGARSS), held from July 16th to July 21st in Pasadena, California, USA. IEEE IGARSS is an international conference organized by the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) under the IEEE framework, focusing on remote sensing technology and its applications in fields such as Earth science, environmental science, and physics. This conference is a significant event in the global remote sensing field, attracting scholars, engineers, scientists, and industry experts from around the world each year.

Mainly sponsored by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the United States, the conference’s opening ceremony also featured presentations on large-scale exploration missions to Mars, Jupiter, and other celestial bodies by NASA and space organizations from various countries. The aim is to combine Earth observation and remote sensing technology applications to expand humanity’s knowledge of the universe. The conference brought together nearly three thousand scholars from around the world, featuring over 300 paper presentation sessions and showcasing close to a thousand posters.

Over a thousand posters on-site provided researchers with the opportunity to browse and discuss their work at the conference venue.

Deputy Director Hao delivered a presentation titled “The Design And Development Of A Cloud-Based National Datacube Services” during the conference, where he introduced the progress of DATACUBE application in Taiwan. He also served as the session chair, facilitating discussions and interactions among the presenters. Through this participation, he had the opportunity to connect with scholars from various research fields.

Among the notable individuals he engaged with were Prof. Di from George Mason University. Prof. Di has been a long-standing professor at GMU in the United States and has been actively involved in research projects supported by NASA and NSF. He is set to assume the role of General Chair for the 2026 IGARSS conference to be held in Washington, D.C. Another individual of significance was George Percivall, who has been served as CTO at Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) for many years and currently plays a pivotal role as a facilitator in the IEEE Spatial Web Foundation, continuing his efforts to promote international standards.

In addition to these international connections, the event also saw participation from domestic institutions, including professors and research groups from National Central University, National Chung Hsing University, and researchers from the National Center for High-performance Computing. Together, they engaged in fruitful discussions and mutual learning during the conference.
