FIG Working Week 2023 – Prestigious Event of International Surveying and Spatial Information

The International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) is a non-governmental international organization recognized by the United Nations and the World Bank. In 2023, FIG hosted the largest annual conference in the field of surveying and spatial information in Orlando, Florida. The conference took place from 28 May to 1 June with the theme “Protecting Our World – Conquering New Frontiers”. It focused on expanding the influence of spatial technology through technology, expertise, and goodwill to achieve a better tomorrow.

Hundreds of experts gathered to share their research findings during the working week. Their professionals ranged from photogrammetry, hydrographic surveying, and land spatial and environmental information management. The conference provided training on new technologies and methods, and offered opportunities for participants from different countries to learn the latest technologies from global suppliers, making it a significant event in the field of surveying and spatial information.

GIS.FCU participated at the Technical Program in the conference. The theme “Opportunities and Challenges for Climate Change Adaptive Strategies” aligns with the indicators and principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and considered climate change adaptation strategies as the important development topic for the FIG conference. GIS.FCU presented a report titled “The Disaster Management of Large Scale Landslide: A Case Study of Debris Flow Early Responding Systems”, sharing Taiwan’s achievements in disaster monitoring and application.

Following the presentation, audiences engaged in discussions, exchanged ideas and insights on the effectiveness of early warning systems and the planning of climate change strategies.

Prof. Jimmy Chou reported in Technical Program

The conference brought global companies together for exhibitions. It included ESRI, Trimble, Leica, Bentley, and other well-known enterprises in spatial information and surveying technology.
