The press conference of OGC Open GeoSMS was held on June 17, 2011, by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and GIS.FCU. ITRI and OGC announced the Open GeoSMS standard and its logo to the global IT industry and service providers for free use. The President of OGC, Mr. Mark Reichardt, also promised to promote with ITRI the Open GeoSMS standard and its logo, and planned to establish the OGC Compliance Testing Center for GeoSMS in Taiwan.

GIS.FCU held 2011 International Interoperability Day Taiwan (II Day@TW) on June 17, 2011, at the NTUH International Conference Center. The conference had subjects of Earth Observations, Interoperability, and Open Geo-Spatial Standards.

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has officially permitted GIS Research Center to become Asia’s 1st OGC Standards Compliance Testing Center. The OGC has been devoted to establish worldwide geo-spatial standards since it was founded in 1994. This entrance permission from OGC also reveals that GIS Research Center’s contribution has earned highly positive ratings.
