GIS.FCU Director Jimmy Chou joined 2018 Location Powers “Our Urban Environment”-“Data, Interoperability and our Urban World”

Director Jimmy Chou was invited to join 2018 Location Powers “Our Urban Environment”- “Data, Interoperability and our Urban World” in Singapore from September 25 to September 26. This event was held by Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and Singapore Land Authority. There were many experts and scholars of academia and industry from America, Europe and Asia. They introduced how to use the International standard for information sharing in their professional fields. In addition, Director Jimmy Chou talked this topic “Implementing Smart Cities; Standards, Interoperability and Deep Learning for Disasters Monitoring”, and got many good feedbacks.

The team led by Director Jimmy Chou of GIS Center of Feng Chia University once again participated in the five-day OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) Technical Committee Meeting (TC/PC, Technical/Planning committees). GIS.FCU shared Taiwan experiences with international geospatial standard experts in various field discussion sessions such as EDM (Emergency Disaster Management), Big Data, Agriculture, Sensor Things API, and Geo AI.

2017 105th OGC TC/PC Meeting in New Zealand

The 105th OGC TC/PC Meeting was held in New Zealand during 4th to 7th Dec. 2017, Prof. Jimmy and Dr. How attended the event as the representative of OGC principle member. During this event, Prof. Jimmy presented “the GeoAI development and policy in Taiwan” in GeoAI ad-hoc meeting, “Application on Disaster Prevention in Taiwan and Vietnam”in Emergency Disaster Management DWG; Dr. How provided a joint presentation with OGC staff Gobe to report “The semantic (SRIM API) implementation fromTestbed-13”in GeoSemantic DWG. In addition to that, a potential domain working group for artificial intelligence was also proposed by Dr. Kim, AIST, Japan during the GeoAI ad-hoc meeting, GISFCU has committed to contribute efforts on drafting the charter of GeoAI DWG in following months.

GIS.FCU attended the GEO XIV Plenary in Washington D.C.

During 23 th to 27th this Oct., Dr.How represented GIS.FCU to attend the 14th GEO Plenary in Washington D.C., accompanied with Dr.Lin from National Center for High Performance Computing(NCHC) and Dr.Chiou from Taiwan Forestry Research Institute. There were more than 700 representatives and delegates from 105 countries and 150 international organizations. Various topics related to global observation and the perspective and contribution from Taiwan had been discussed, including water resource management, flood management, forestry resource and disaster management, OpenDataCube applications. Some networks with OGC, CEOS, GeoScience, and International Flood Initiative has been connected as well during this event!

GIS.FCU director Jimmy Chou and Dr. Frank Fang joined the Cross-strait Symposium on Soil and Water Conservation 2017 during August 17th to 23 th in Chengdu, Sichuan. Director Chou invited to be keynotes speech on “Application of Spatial Information Technology in Intelligent Disaster Prevention Monitoring.” Dr.Fang was present “Record of Observation on landslide in Taiwan after Morakot Disaster – Taking Shenmu Observatory as an Example.
